This site has been seeing decent traffic for the past few months but I have not been receiving very many new Karma stories. As a result, I have decided to “overhaul” the site to see if there is any way I could encourage more visitors to post their Karma stories. My first action was to remove the dates on the comments. I don’t believe it matters when Karma stories were shared on PostKarma.com. Also, I think some people might not have been posting their Karma stories because they thought this site was old, and not in use.

The purpose of this site is to give people a place to share their good deeds and encourage others to be good people. It has occurred to me, however, that some people might not realize what a Karma story is. Or, rather, that they may have difficulty remembering things they have done for others.

If you’re looking for ideas to write about on PostKarma.com, here are some points that may help.

• Have you done something good lately?

Example: Helping out at a food kitchen, or helping someone with their groceries.

• Have you done something that you didn’t have to do just because it made you feel good to help?

Example: Stopping along the side of the road to help a stranded motorist. Picking up litter in a parking lot, or around your neighborhood. (Great way to get exercise, fresh air, and help the environment.)

If you haven’t done anything of note that you can remember, it is never too late to start. It can be quite easy. Simply keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. For example, if you see someone in a parking lot with their car hood up, go see if there is anything that person needs. They might just need to make a call to a family member.. but they don’t have a cell phone. Or, pickup litter throughout your day. If I had a nickle for every time I ran down a receipt or empty soda bottle in a parking lot… I’d have a lot of nickles.

A good rule of thumb is, if you see someone possibly in need of help, ask yourself this: if I were in that position, would I want someone to help me? In most cases the answer is YES!

Don’t limit yourself to sharing only the Karma stories about you. If you have a friend that helped you, or would like to thank a stranger.. go ahead. It all helps. Imagine a teenager visits this site and reads a few Karma stories. They might see a post about someone picking up litter throughout the day and decide to do the same. That means the person that posted that Karma story shaped another persons life for the better. That person will now pickup litter and make the world a better place for everyone! Not to mention, if anyone sees that person picking up litter, they might just do the same. So please, share the Karma stories of your own good deeds, but also share those Karma stories of others.

Be Safe! Remember to always be safe. If you’re alone driving home at night, it might not be the safest thing to pick up a hitchhiker, or offer assistance to anyone as it might possibly be a trap or a trick. I can tell you with 100% confidence that if I were in need of help, but someone didn’t feel safe helping me, that I would not be upset. It is completely understandable. But remember, you can always call your local police station and tell them about the person in need!

I will be making a few other changes to this site over the next few weeks. I hope that you find them useful.

UPDATE: I recently disabled my PostKarma twitter account. Slow site growth and lack of time / utilization by visitors have made this the best option. I may set this back up in the future… only time will tell.

I have started to spread the word a bit via facebook, by starting a fan group for PostKarma.com. I have also begun requesting feedback from members of facebook as to how the site might be improved. If you have any ideas please let me know!
